Legendary Metal Concert Venue in Vilnius Will Host Vilkų Žiema 6 Festival
Nearly 20 years ago, Vilnius’ cultural life was struck by a disaster: the fire, which started during the concert of the metal veterans Overkill (USA), ravaged the legendary Geležinis Kablys club. Last winter metal music was brought back to this venue by Vilkų Žiema (Winter of Wolves) festival, which returns to the place that brings back so many memories to the older metal generation in the heart of Vilnius yet again.
And the loudest wolf in our ‘Winter of Wolves’ is one of the brightest stars of Viking metal – the Swedish team Månegarm. The Swedes, fiercely singing about victory, death and the Scandinavian gods, have already been to Lithuania before. In 2017, they enraptured their listeners at Kilkim Žaibu festival. The war-like Vikings bring news to the Lithuanian metal fans – they will introduce their sixth album Fornaldarsagor, released this year, which maintains their Viking metal style with hints of black metal and lyrical inserts of violin. Although Vilkų Žiema is a rather young festival, which will take place for the 6th time in the upcoming winter, it may seem like a younger ‘brother’ of Kilkim Žaibu festival, well-known to Lithuanian and foreign heavy music fans – both of them are organised by Pikuolis club. Namely the long years of experience in organising music events and excellent knowledge of the metal scene enable Pikuolis to attract heavy-calibre metal bands to Lithuania on Saturday – the most convenient day of the week. So, you can rest assured that as the powerful metal event of winter approaches, you will hear more than one well-known heavy music name, which will shake Vilku Žiema stage. Vilkų Žiema festival will take place on 1 February at Kablys Culture Bar in Vilnius.
