At the end of January, Vilnius will be gripped by a blast of metal frost, with wolves howling in the very heart of the capital. Because the newly revamped Kablys music club is set to host the tenth WINTER OF WOLVES festival — and this time, it comes with special guests. Coming to Lithuania especially for the country’s biggest winter metal celebration, the extreme-metal supergroup VLTIMAS arrives with the legendary David Vincent at the forefront.
Welcoming stars of this calibre to Lithuania is always a huge occasion. The fact that they’ve shown us such exceptional attention and are joining the anniversary Winter of Wolves makes it a double celebration — one we’re eager to share with all fans of fierce and dark music.
VLTIMAS are coming to Lithuania outside of any tour schedule — the giants of metal, whose sound navigates the borders of black, thrash, and death metal, have packed their bags especially for WINTER OF WOLVES. This will be a truly exceptional performance, marking the anniversary of Vilnius’s leading metal festival.
VLTIMAS is referred to as a supergroup for good reason — its members have long since had nothing left to prove. David Vincent himself is the long-time vocalist of the world-renowned death-metal pioneers Morbid Angel, and the force behind many other musical projects. Rune Eriksen spent nearly a decade and a half as the guitarist of Mayhem, arguably the most famous black-metal band in the world. Since last year, the international line-up has been reinforced by Dutch bassist Ype Terwisscha van Scheltinga, previously a member of Dodecahedron.
With their début album ‘Something Wicked Marches In’, VLTIMAS immediately made the extreme-music world hold its breath — and raised expectations to dizzying heights. And last year’s album ‘Epic’ showcased the full force of what this supergroup is capable of. Although the band has visited Lithuania before, the upcoming Winter of Wolves will be their first opportunity to present this album live to a Lithuanian audience.
Joining the international supergroup in Vilnius will be the Finnish melodic death-metal stars WOLFHEART. Their music, breathing Nordic frost, is enriched with elements of black and gothic metal, as well as acoustic and symphonic passages that give it a distinctive sound.
At the end of January, Vilnius will also host DEATH WORSHIP – Canadian artists who have spent more than a decade forging black and death metal steeped in visions of death and decay. Brutal. Sharp. Unpolished. Or simply bestial. These are perhaps the most fitting words for the armageddon that will unfold on the WINTER OF WOLVES stage.
And that’s far from all. The WINTER OF WOLVES anniversary edition will hammer the audience’s ears with cold, pitch-black metal, delivered by Italy’s FIDES INVERSA, Austria’s KRINGA, and Vilnius’s own NIGHT SLASHER.
The WINTER OF WOLVES festival will take place on 31 January in Vilnius, at the Kablys music club.
